Monday: Look of the Week, Want, Bought

One of the best brands EVER; Aqua (Bloomingdales' upscale equivalent to BP @ Nordstrom), has the cutest fall line this year. I mean, I seriously want to buy everything, which, being 14, of course is not an option. :(

LOOK OF THE WEEK

Anyways, the look of the week.

I don't think I can even put into words how much I want this skirt ($88) and shirt ($45). Ahhh, if only...

WANT OF THE WEEK

Speaking of wanting...

Steven by Steve Madden "Vestted" Short Boot, $148.95, Nordstrom

So cute! The perfect hybrid of grungy and girly. I'm diggin' it.

CLOSET HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Last, but not least, went to Nordstrom this weekend and fell in love with an adorable wool trench coat. Well, I guess apparently it's a walking coat, but still. Definitely worth the hard earned cash I spent on it :)

Tulle Wool Walking Coat, $52.90, BP Nordstrom

I love that this coat is not too long for school, or too fancy, but still really warm and cozy for winter. Plus, at about $50, it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up! Can't wait to pair it with some cute tights and jeans, rainboots and flats, scarves and hats! :):)

5 Things Every Girl NEEDS In Her Closet...

1. White V-Neck

Unisex Fine Jersey Short Sleeve V-Neck, $19, American Apparel

Every girl needs one of these. Sure, they're simple, but in a good way! I'm a fan of the American Apparel ones; I have 'em in dark blue, white, gray, and purple. You can also find more generic looking ones at Victoria's Secret PINK, Target, and Walmart. I just love the AA ones because they're sooooo soft, tuck-in-able, and give off that awesome "yeah, that's right, I roll out of bed lookin' like THIS!" look.

2. Leggings & Tights

H81 Ankle Knit Leggings in Black, $4.90, Forever 21

Opaque Tights in Purple, $5.80, Forever 21

Here's the deal on leggings and tights: necessary. What I adore about leggings and tights is that they feel dressier than jeans with a cute top, but can be really laid-back with a simple cotton dress. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the H&M leggings and tights because they're great quality, super cheap, and durable and warm. Just make sure to wear a thong with 'em, otherwise you'll end up with the dreaded VPL!!!! (visible panty line)

3. Black Ballet Flats

Mossimo Supply Co. O'dell Ballet Flats in Black, $12.99, Target

There's not really much to say about ballet flats other than versatile x a mil! Rock 'em with jeans, leggings, tights, skirts, shorts, dresses; THEY MATCH ALMOST ANYTHING!! Target, H&M, and Nordstrom BP are fab places to get these for pretty cheap. Get plain black to wear with other busy pieces, patent to be a little bold, or try colored or metallic flats to stand out!

4. Mock Two-Piece Dress

BP Velvet Torch 2-Piece Dress, $31.90, Nordstrom

BP Ruby Rox Scoop Neck Mock Two Piece Dress, $48, Nordstrom

BP Velvet Torch Tank Dress, $29.90, Nordstrom

Fab. Easy. Comfy. Cute. 'Nuff said.

5. Printed Skirt

BP Mimi Chica Cotton Challis Miniskirt, $24, Nordstrom

Printed skirts dress up a plain t-shirt (see #1), look summer-y with sandals, or autumn-y with tights (see #2). Great transition piece into fall from summer.

My thoughts on Schouler's take....
I love the modern take on this fall's tribal trend! The colors complement each other fabulously, and the feathered asymmetrical hem is a cool pop of texture.
My take....

Back To School!

Yesterday I wrote about my new AWESOME Steve Madden flat boots, so I felt the urge to wear them today! I went to bed waaaay later than I should've last night, so I overslept and had about 10 minutes to get ready before school. Today was definitely a "loungewear" day haha. I paired them with my good ol' dELiA's thermal, $15ish when you buy two, a pair of crappy PacSun skinnies, 2 for $45, I had lying around (most of my other jeans wouldn't look right with the boots), and my new Aritzia$50, plaid flannel boyfriend shirt that I love so much I WISH it was my boyfriend!!

In case you haven't yet had the privilege of experiencing this FABULOUS/my FAVORITE store, it's a company based out of Canada that's just started branchin out into the U.S., thank god!! The "clerks" who work there can more appropriately be described as personal shoppers; they're sooo sweet! I just LOVE walking in there, because the atmosphere is so welcoming and urban-feeling; they showcase new artists on their bags.

Okay, enough of my mini-rant, LOL! Anyways, I thought I'd share my schoolbag with you, because, yes, I'm JUST that GENEROUS!! I know, it was hideously expensive, but I saw it in Teen Vogue, and pink being my fave color, I just knew I had to have it!

Above: Coach Evie Tote, $198, Nordstrom
Above Right: Coach Multi Grafitti Pony Scarf, $38, Coach

Okay, so onto the real topic of the day: BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING!!
I know, I know, I know, school's already started, but here's my deal about back to school shopping, 3 important rules I find to be helpful!:

1.) Don't overbuy or WRONGBUY :O
What I mean by this is, don't buy stuff just cuz it's there. Last year, my friend Hannah went shopping with her mom and convinced her that she needed a bunch of new t-shirts, shorts, leggings, and tennis shoes. Well, let's be realistic, okay??
Who needs more than one pair of black leggings?
Who needs more than two pairs of tennies, max?
Who needs tons of random graphic t-shirts?
Who needs shorts for fall/winter?
The answer: NO ONE!! No one needs this crap, so the biggest lesson when school shopping is:
MAKE A LIST
...
IT WILL MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!

2.) DON'T GO SCHOOL SHOPPING BEFORE MID-SEPTEMBER
Alright, I know what you're all thinking, "Wow, she is crazy!!" NO!
I swear I'm not!!
Really!
Well, back to my point, it must sound weird, seeing as back-to-school shopping is usually done before school starts, but after you hear my reasoning, I can pretty much guarantee you'll side with me. Check this out:
Haven't you noticed how none of the coooool clothes are out in August?? (yes)
Wellll, that's cuz the coooool clothes aren't even out in August!
Yeah, that's right, I did just rock your world.
Lesson: The best back to school clothes don't come out until September/October, for "late fall", because August is the awkward transition period between summer and fall.

3.) Invest in a coat...or 2...or 3...
Note: Even if you live in California, Florida, or...I don't know, Mexico, every girl (or guy!) needs a coat. No ifs, ands, or buts about it!! Sometimes there'll be a freak storm or something, and you better be prepared!!!
Check out these coats I've picked out in different price ranges ($,$$,$$$) so you're sure to find the right one for you!
Two cute, cheap coats...but with a catch: will you go for TRENDY or CLASSIC?

Trendy-Animal Prints are big this fall/winter, but it's not necessarily a trend that'll be "in" forever. Zebra Trench, $34.80, Forever 21
vs.
Classic-A classy blazer is not only really hot right now, but will always be stylish. Zinc Blazer, $48, B.P. Nordstrom

Some more adorable coats for fall/winter!

Above: Roxy Peacoat, $59.50, Macy's
Left: Kieran Bomber, $79.50, Delia's
That's all for now!

Late Fall Fashion 2009

"Fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions"
Coco Chanel
Wow, I pretty much completely forgot about this blog! Soooo sorry :( (How that's possible, I don't even know) Anyways, it's September, which means back to school (for me at least!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last week I bought THE cutest boots EVER at good old Nordstrom. They're the Cybul Cognac Steve Madden boots, and I just can't get enough of these babies. Flat boots are perfect for school since they can be dressed up or down and you won't have to deal with a noticeable height difference. Plus, it doesn't hurt that they're super cheap at only $99!

Steve Madden Cybul Boots in Cognac, $99, Nordstrom

Here's some other cute variations (organized by price, $, $$, $$$) on the flat boot trend this fall:
$

Mossimo Giselle Boots in Black, $29.99, Target

$$

Steve Madden Bonanza Boots in Black Suede, $69.97, Steve Madden

$$$

Jessica Simpson Fanny Boots in Black, $139, Macy's

And, for those of you who want to try this look, but aren't sure how, here's a list of possible combos with flat, tall boots!
  • skinny jeans
  • lace leggings
  • velvet leggings
  • black leggings
  • colored leggings (pink works well with black boots, gray with brown boots, & navy with gray boots)
  • leather, polyester, or spandex miniskirts (zippers with motorcycle boots kick ass, a tight boho printed high-waisted skirt looks adorable with brown boots, & a deep purple ultra-miniskirt with horizontal piping (bandage skirt) helps bring gray boots
  • i.e. £20 Dorothy Perkins bandage skirt

Later! :) And here's a pic of the TO DIE FOR romper I bought today at BP for only $30! I know, sooo rad!! The belt is also from BP, $16. The shoes are BP, too, but last season (don't worry, guys, I'm not a BP junkie, just happened to work out this way). The necklace is vintage.
